4 SIMPLE SALON MARKETING SEARCH STRATEGIES: GET FOUND ONLINE

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a must for any salon looking to be found online when prospective clients go searching on Google for your business.

Google rewards websites that have been optimized for the web by moving those websites up in the search listings – the goal of which is to be in the top 1-3 listings on page one of a search.

SEO is a big topic but there are four simple things you can do right now to increase your chances of being found online and moving higher in the search rankings.

1. ONLINE DIRECTORIES

List your salon in the key online directories for your country and you will find that you start to appear in the organic search listings on Google. The key online directories in New Zealand include:

  • Yellow Pages
  • Neighbourly
  • Localist
  • Yelp
  • Fyple
  • Eventfinda

2. GOOGLE MY BUSINESS

If you do nothing else, be sure to create and maintain a Google My Business Listing. Google My Business is where people will find you when they go searching online for a hair, nails or beauty salon in their area. You will show up on Google Maps and you will also show up in the search results on mobile or desktop.

3. CREATE BACKLINKS TO YOUR WEBSITE

A backlink is a technical SEO term that refers to a link that directs back to your website. There is a fabulous platform called Bloglovin. Create a Bloglovin account and regularly post content to your Bloglovin account with a link back to your website. For example, you may write a short 100-200 word article about the benefits of using sunscreen year round for your skin. In that article somewhere, you will provide a link back to your website and bingo, you’ve created a backlink. Google loves backlinks and will reward you in the organic search listings when people go searching online.

4. SOCIAL MEDIA

Most salon owners have a Facebook page and use it successfully to create awareness about specials, promotions, announcements and general salon news. A good strategy for simple SEO is to create other social media accounts for Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter and repost the same content to each of these platforms. Google will index your social media accounts and you will find that you start to appear in the Google search listings under your social media platforms.

Try these simple, yet effective, SEO techniques and you will start to notice a change in where you appear in the Google search listings as prospective clients go looking for salons in their area.
